About the Artist

Growing up in Ottawa, Ontario, Donna created art in one form or another for as long as she can remember. She attended the Banff School of Fine Arts, studying Life Drawing with Robert Hyndman, and through the years, studied art in various mediums and subjects while working as a registered nurse. In 1987 she enrolled at Algonquin College in Graphic Design to finally make a career of doing what she loved, winning numerous awards and finishing top student in her class.

She was employed as a graphic designer and illustrator in Ottawa for over ten years, after which she moved to Kingston, Ontario. Her involvement with growing and showing orchids for many years led to a small business, The Orchid Studio, selling orchids and her botanical watercolours. She also enjoyed being part of a Kingston artist's group, Artisus, and participated in their annual shows.

After her husband's retirement in 2006, they moved to Vancouver Island and now reside in Qualicum Beach, BC. In May of 2016, she joined TOSH 10 Studio and Gallery at The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach, www.tosh10gallery.blogspot.ca. She is presently on a year's sabatical and will return in May of 2020. She is a Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA), a member of the Arrowsmith Chapter of the FCA, and a Signature member of Pastel Artists Canada (PAC).

Donna works primarily in pastel, but also in oil and watermedia, always striving to be true to her subjects, inspired by mood, colour, texture and light. She also enjoys life drawing, printing monotypes and painting outside during the dry months of summer.

Donna's drawings and paintings are in private collections across Canada.
