Marilyn Peeters - Active

Marilyn is an expressionist painter working and residing in the Comox Valley, British Columbia.

"My connection with nature has been engraved in my soul since childhood. As a child I remember spending many hours alone in the forest behind my parents’ house lost in my own imaginary games and thoughts. The forest became my extension of home, an area that gave me a release from family dynamics in the home. I was not taught as a child to have faith but I guess I seemed to have found a sense of peace in the woods at a young age." Read more.

She always had the ability to be creative as far back as she can remember and her life-long dream continues to be to 'make art' that is bigger than life. At a young age, she knew there would be a time to further her studies in Fine Arts however; the opportunity did not knock until later years.

She and her family moved to the Comox Valley in the early 80’s where she extended her knowledge of art working as a versatile artist.

She volunteered with the Co-Val Choristers theatre group gaining extensive experience as a set designer and painter. With this experience, many of the downtown merchants offered her mural jobs.

It was here that she had dabbled as a trompe l’oeil muralist, decorating the interior and exterior store walls of Courtenay and Campbell River, BC.

Soon after, she completed her studies in art with a Fine Arts Diploma through North Island College and in 2009 her Bachelors of Fine Arts with Emily Carr University. Her painting studies were under the instruction of painting colorist, John Hooley, and Canada's world-renowned, first nations artist, George Littlechild. It was in her fourth year university with Littlechild that she gained a significant enthusiasm to paint.

She now paints full time in her studio.
