“One of the most exciting things about being an artist is that there is so much to discover. I have learned much throughout my teaching career and from experimenting. Even after all these years of painting and drawing, I am enjoying the journey more than ever.”
Laura taught English and art to teenagers and adults for twenty-five years in high schools in Ontario. She attended the University of Windsor and after graduation taught in Toronto and in Deep River, Ontario. When she was in grade eight, she was one of two students from her school chosen to receive art lessons at the Willistead Art Gallery in Windsor. From that early encouragement, Laura found her passion for painting and drawing. She began oil painting at the University in Windsor, and later took art courses at the Ottawa School of Art. She studied watercolour with many artists from Canada and the United States. Upon moving to Vancouver Island and joining the Arrowsmith Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists, she has been encouraged to experiment with acrylic painting. The journey continues.
Laura is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 1995 Fellow (FOWS) of the Ottawa Watercolour Society, member from 1982.
Laura has won awards for her paintings with the Federation of Canadian Artists, Arrowsmith Chapter, Oceanside Festival of the Arts and the Ottawa Watercolour Society. Her paintings have been chosen for exhibit at the Federation Gallery in Vancouver and published in Art Avenue.
