Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Donna created art in one form or another for as long as she can remember, and always felt the challenge and excitement of trying to draw and paint what she was seeing.
In 1968, she attended the Banff School of Fine Arts, studying Life Drawing with Robert Hyndman, and through the years, studied art in various subjects and mediums while working as a registered nurse. In 1987 she enrolled at Algonquin College in Graphic Design to finally make a career of doing what she loved, winning numerous awards and finishing top student in her class.
She was employed as a graphic designer and illustrator in Ottawa for over ten years, after which she moved to Kingston, Ontario. Her involvement with growing and showing orchids for many years led to a small business, The Orchid Studio, selling orchids and her botanical watercolours. She also enjoyed being part of a Kingston artist's group, Artisus, and participated in their annual shows.
After her husband's retirement in 2006, they moved to Vancouver Island and now reside in Qualicum Beach, BC. She is a member of the DeCosmos Fine Art Society, an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and Arrowsmith Chapter of the FCA.
In recent years Donna has been working in soft pastel, attracted by the rich pure pigments and the creative freedom it allows. Her subjects are varied and embrace life.
Donna’s drawings and paintings are in private collections across Canada.
