Silk Painting for Beginners
August 25 & 26, 2012
Discover the colourful world of painting on silk. Using silk as your canvas and dye as your medium, you can take your paintings into a whole new dimension.
The focus of the workshop will be based on learning the traditional silk painting technique of outlining a design with resist, painting wet on dry and wet on wet with dye. You will be exploring the balance of line and colour using only the primary hues. There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment with mixing colour either in the palette, or by layering and glazing on the silk.
Most materials will be provided, including some basic designs (flowers, butterflies, fish) if required. The workshop will begin with a silk painting demo (complete with a comprehensive hand-out) and the weekend will end with each person taking home a 17" x 17" painting on silk, together with an 11" x 60" unique, hand painted silk scarf.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as artists wanting to extend their skills by learning new techniques.
