Leslie Gregory
Leslie was born in France but spent most of her childhood in London, Ontario. She could always be found painting drawing or generally up to her elbows in some creative endeavour. Nature was her favourite theme but she also became fascinated by the everyday world around her. Her love of art led her to attending the University of Western Ontario and York University. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree which she put to good use in creating and running a large photography company and in raising her two daughters.
Now retired from both London, Ont. and the photography company, Leslie lives with her husband on 20 acres of woodland at Spider Lake near Qualicum Beach, B.C. Her strong attachment to nature and her love of finding the “Sacred in the Ordinary” present her with an unlimited array of painting ideas. “The play of sunlight on the water or the curve of a flower petal as it unfolds can leave us breathless with delight if we but look.” There is an exuberance of colour and texture to be found in a box of old buttons or the bubbles in the kitchen sink while we wash the dishes- again, if we but look. She asks us to look by painting small vignettes of ordinary subjects.
Leslie's work can be found in private collections and galleries throughout North America and is currently on display at TOSH in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
