Cindy Mawle

Cindy Mawle grew up amongst a playground of forests and beaches in the small Vancouver Island community of Sooke, B.C.   Her adventurous, independent and determined nature as a child evolved into the driving force behind her creativity today.

The encouragement from a high school art teacher opened Cindy’s eyes to the world of art and set her forward on her path.  For fifteen years Cindy collected art supplies in a wooden chest and practiced drawing, referring to art instruction books for direction.

In 1987, the poor B.C. economy pushed Cindy to move to Didsbury, Alberta.   In 1993, when her daughter was six years of age, a few parents in the community prompted her to teach drawing and painting to their children, which eventually turned into nine years of art classes.  Initially Cindy taught children, and eventually adults, while working as an optician and raising her daughter.

Cindy supplements her self-taught journey with workshops facilitated by established artists. She chooses those artists by finding a particular “edge” in their work that she feels she can utilize for her own growth.  Over the years Mike Svob, Brent Laycock, Donna Baspaly, and Brent Lynch have all inspired her unique style.  Cindy has worked in pastel, watercolour, pen and ink, but acrylics have held her steadfast since 1995.

In 2009-2010 Cindy challenged herself to paint '100 paintings in 100 days', posting each day's painting and blog on her website.  The event was extremely successful, and her website now receives a multitude of hits every day.

Cindy has held solo exhibitions as well as participating in numerous juried shows including the Sooke Fine Arts Show and Sidney Fine Art Show.  Cindy is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Arrowsmith Chapter and The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach BC.
