Charne Gooch

Born and raised in South Africa, Charne Gooch has called Vancouver Island home since 1997.

Always interested in the natural world, Charne found herself, upon arriving in Canada, fascinated by the different fauna and flora of her new home. After years of other priorities such as raising a family, the exploration and discovery of the natural beauty around her home in Nanoose, led the artist to pick up pencil and paint again, to record these new found treasures.

Charne observes that :"Whenever I look at a landscape, a plant or an animal, I always find myself looking close-up, that is what truly fascinates me. I am drawn to the minute little details of an object"

Dramatic light, and the atmosphere and the mood of a scene are equally important, while vibrant colours and interesting textures round out the requirements for what inspires her to a work. The beautiful landscape scenes of Vancouver Island is another source of inspiration soon to be explored.

Working primarily in Water Colours, Pastel and Coloured Pencil, the artist has found the media that allow her the freedom of experimentation coupled with the control of detail that is important to her.

Charne is currently an Acitve Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and works from the studio at her home in Nanoose Bay, on Vancouver Island, Canada.
